Season 108 - WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION !!!

Season 108 saw a record-breaking 93 active users – the record until this point was 79 quizzers so we broke the record in style. Now when I say we, I must be quick to admit that breaking the record and breaking it in such a way is entirely the work of this season’s quizmaster @Hasini Minuvanpitiya - a woman I now suspect must be some kind of local Sri Lankan celebrity. I mentioned her name in a few posts and all of a sudden 32 Sri Lankans were playing. This caused me to introduce a new format to Quizzypedia – Clash of Countries  - but I will get back to that in a later post. First, I would like to thank Hasini for her excellent set of questions – a set you were quite happy with too – the average rating was 3.9 out of 5 stars - and for bringing attention to Quizzypedia to so many new quizzers. I really hope you will all continue playing – I'm sure Hasini will continue to play too, so if you do keep playing, you will still be in the presence of the local celeb. And now for the reveal you have all been waiting for. Which player runs away with the Season 108 trophy. Well... you are gonna have to wait a little bit longer, because the winner, as so ofthen before had to be found in a tie-breaker. This time the topic was member states of the United Nations that starts with a vowel. This was quite a popular topic as 9 quizzers chose to participate, six of whom, Bob Douglas, Bob Thompson, Dorian Willems, Duncan McDonald, Kathryn Hutchinson and Sander van der Heyden all had perfect seasons (so did Indika Jayasinghe, but he did not participate in the tie-break).

And I must say that all the quizzers did extremely well. The lowest score was 29 out of a possible 35 countries (and that included the country we all know as the United Republic of Tanzania – okay nobody knows Tanzania by that name, so in reality there were 34 countries to mention). And what can I say... Do not go up against Duncan when it comes to geography. It was no surprise to me that he mentioned all 34 countries and he is (once again) our new champion. This is Duncan’s sixth championship – please give him a big round of applause.
